Full Stack Rails Engineer: First Employee, Full-Time, Remote
Startup life ain’t for everyone, but if you want to roll the dice and work for an early-stage company that’s on a mission to scale and improve the world with conversational AI then you should consider joining the Voxable team. We’re looking for a full stack Rails engineer who will join the three Voxable co-founders as our first employee (this is a full-time, remote position). We value good people, sane processes, flexible schedules, and work-life balance.
By joining the Voxable team now, you’ll have the unique opportunity to make an impact on Voxable’s long-term trajectory and craft the role that you want as our company grows.
You’ll work directly with our CTO (who has been working with Rails professionally since 2006) to define, build and maintain the Voxable platform. Voxable is built with a reactive Rails stack consisting of ViewComponent and StimulusReflex, and it’s hosted on Heroku.
We also value transparency, so we encourage you to ask any questions you have about the role, compensation, benefits, or company during the interview process!
As Voxable’s first employee, you’ll wear more hats in this role than you may be used to and spearhead projects that would normally be another team’s responsibility. It might be daunting at times, but it’s the kind of experience, influence, and opportunity you can’t get at a large organization.
You’ll be expected to:
- Build, test, and maintain the Voxable product
- Review pull requests
- Maintain and expand the Voxable production environment
- Help out with customer support
- Work with the team to define new features
- Field technical questions from team members
- Attend industry events (and speak at them, if you like!)
- Pay attention to the fast-moving conversational AI space
As you can see above, the role is pretty much everything technical, front to back! Don’t hesitate to apply if you’re lacking any of the listed skills—we don’t expect you to be an expert at all of this stuff. We care much more about your ability to learn quickly and adapt to what’s needed.
This role will entail:
- Full-stack web application development with Ruby on Rails
- Unit and integration testing with RSpec
- The writing of clear, concise documentation
- The ability to be kind under pressure
We have no education requirements. Don’t worry if you don’t have a history of open-source contributions on your GitHub profile—we don’t consider that a problem. We love open-source software, but also recognize that not everyone is willing or able to perform what is typically uncompensated labor. If you do have a project you’ve worked on that you can share with us, we’d be happy to take a look!
Compensation & Benefits
The salary for this position will start at US $100,000 plus equity. Benefits include (but are not limited to): health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and PTO.
Voxable is a conversation design platform for teams that want to build better voice and chat apps. We know design is the differentiator when building tech and the reason companies have yet to capitalize on conversational AI’s potential (and hype) is because they don’t have the design tool to do so. The founding team ran a conversational AI agency for the past six years and worked with brands like AT&T, GoDaddy, Overstock, and SXSW prior to building the product. So, we know a thing or two about the needs of teams building this technology.
We think effective communication with machines is critical to humanity’s survival as a species. We’re building Voxable because we want to improve the world with conversational AI and enable teams to focus on what matters: user experience.
Voxable is committed to creating a diverse environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
